I spent the first 12+ years of my working life as a lawyer, then partner, in a large law firm in Calgary.
As a busy professional, wife and mom of two young children, I struggled to find that elusive "work-life" balance.
When I was at work, I worried about my young children and what my long hours were doing to them. When I was home, I worried I should "billing". I kept a notepad by my bed to make notes in the middle of the night about files when I couldn't sleep. I fuelled myself with Diet Coke and "took the edge off" with wine.
I was "doing it all" - but none of it very well - and I eventually burnt out.
After much soul-searching, I eventually left the law and began to create a new career & life that I didn't need to escape from.
In the role of coach & corporate wellness expert, I speak with honesty & empathy.
I'm inclusive, non-judgmental, and not a bit "preachy", because I've been where many of my clients find themselves.
I wish I knew then what I know now about the importance of paying more than lip service to wellness.
I wish my firm had offered more accessible & helpful support to its employees, instead of a random presentation here and there.
